This article takes into account information from the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) document titled "Soil, Ground Water and Sediment Standards for Use Under Part XV.1 of the Environmental Protection Act", dated April 15, 2011.
Table 3 values are used on sites that have communities that do not consume the groundwater as drinking water. These communities typically have municipally supplied drinking water. The values are generally not as strict as Table 1 and Table 2 values. Unlike Table 1 Standards, Table 3 standards for soil are broken down to two (2) categories:

The values are generally not as strict as Table 1 and Table 2 values. Unlike Table 1 Standards, Table 3 standards for soil are broken down to two (2) categories:
- Residential/Parkland/Institutional (RPI) Property Use; and,
- Industrial/Commercial/Community (ICC) Property Use.
This will provide brief summaries of Table 3 values that are typically compared:
The values in the brackets represent values for fine-medium grained soils. Under Ontario Regulation 153/04 (as amended), soil texture is determined as follows:
"If the qualified person determines that at least 1/3 of the soil at the property, measured by volume, consists of coarse textured soil, the qualified person shall apply the standards for coarse textured soil.
In any other case, the qualified person may apply the standard for medium and fine textured soil."
In Ontario Regulation 153/04 (as amended) the qualified person is defined as "the person holds a licence, limited licence or temporary licence under the Professional Engineers Act; or the person holds a certificate of registration under the Professional Geoscientists Act, 2000 and is a practicing member, temporary member or limited member of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario."
